Dr. Sohaila L. Maleki – DVM

Dr. Sohaila Maleki earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and completed her clinical training at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. After returning to Boise with co-founder, Dr. Reed Linenberger, she began building both a veterinary career and the life they envisioned together.

In 2007, that vision became Habitat Veterinary Hospital.

From the beginning, Dr. Maleki believed Habitat could be more than a place where pets received excellent medical care. She envisioned an environment where healthy relationships, trusted leadership, and an exceptional workplace culture created the conditions for great medicine to happen, naturally. She believed that caring for pets begins by caring for the people behind the medicine. That belief has guided every decision at Habitat ever since.

For more than fifteen years, Dr. Maleki practiced integrative veterinary medicine, blending Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine with modern Western medicine to provide individualized, whole-patient care. Her work focused on prevention, pain management, senior pet care, nutrition, and helping families make thoughtful decisions throughout every stage of their pets’ lives.

As Habitat grew, so did Dr. Maleki’s understanding of the complex challenges facing the profession she loves. Through years of caring for patients, leading with heart, and navigating a rapidly changing veterinary landscape, she came to realize that the greatest opportunity to positively impact veterinary medicine was not limited to caring for individual patients. It was creating an environment where veterinary professionals could thrive, uplift one another, and do their very best work. That realization transformed the focus of her career from practicing medicine to helping shape the future of the profession itself.

Today, as Chief Visionary Officer, Dr. Maleki leads Habitat’s long-term vision, culture, and strategic direction. She is the creator of the V.I.T.A.L.S.™ Culture Code, a proprietary relational framework that strengthens communication, trust, accountability, and relational maturity throughout Habitat. Her work is rooted in the belief that healthy relationships create healthy teams, healthy teams provide exceptional care, and exceptional care strengthens the bond between pets and their people.

Dr. Maleki is passionate about protecting the future of independent veterinary medicine by sharing the lessons learned through Habitat’s journey and exploring a relational approach to leadership that strengthens both teams and the care they provide.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Maleki enjoys spending time with her family exploring Idaho’s mountains, rivers, and public lands. She also enjoys traveling, reading, writing, and educating the community through The Pet Perspective, her monthly veterinary column for the Idaho Mountain Express. Rowan and Finley, now young adults, continue to share the family’s love for the natural world that has shaped Habitat from the very beginning.
